Sports Combine Testing (Teams and Individuals)

COMBINE TESTING (ON-ICE & OFF-ICE TESTING)

HDC’s combine sport testing offers the most advanced evaluation and analysis system for ice hockey in the world.  Our comprehensive on-ice testing measures a player’s agility, speed, stick handling and reaction time, while our off-ice testing measures body composition, strength, power, muscular endurance, agility, and balance-all of which provides accurate real-time feedback that can be used to compare to peers or to design required development programming. HDC’s testing sessions feature the same comprehensive tests performed at all WHL Combine testing events.

HDC’s combine testing includes:

  • Player Specific On-Ice Testing
  • Goalie Specific On-Ice Testing
  • Hockey Specific Off-Ice Testing
  • State of the Art Technology from VALD Performance Testing Inc.
  • Individual Athlete Assessment
  • Complete Athlete Comparisons and Rankings

PHASE 2: OFF-ICE TESTING

HDC can accommodate up to 20 players to perform the following tests in a 75-minute time slot.

  1. Body Composition
  • Standing Height: measured to cms.
  • Wingspan: measured to the nearest 0.2 cm from the middle fingertip to middle fingertip.
  • Body Weight: measured and recorded to the nearest 0.1 kg.
  1. Strength, Power and Muscular Endurance
  • Grip Strength: test of hand grip muscle strength, conducted on each hand.
  • Standing Long Jump: test of leg power. Record to the nearest centimeter the distance from the jumping line the heel mark in the best of three trials.
  • Vertical Jump: test of leg power. Leg power using the force plate is measured in three different ways (vertical jump, squat jump, no arm jump).
  • Pull-Ups: measurement of the maximum number of pull ups, using the overhand technique. The test requires each player to perform a maximum number of consecutive repetitions with the correct technique while pausing for one second at the top and bottom of the movement.
  • Push-ups: test of chest muscle strength and endurance. Record maximum number at a rate of 25 push-ups per minute.
  1. Agility & Balance
  • Pro Agility Test: a lateral movement test that measures the agility of the athlete, especially body control and change of direction.
  • Y-Balance Test: a dynamic test performed in a single-leg stance that requires strength, flexibility, core control and proprioception.
  • Curl-ups: test of core muscle strength and endurance. Record maximum number that can be done at a rate of 25 curl-ups per minute.
  • Balance Board: the players are required to balance on a balance board, and measured how many times the board touches the floor in 60 seconds.
  • Hex Agility: like the hexagon test, there is an ‘X’ at the center of a circle and you have to jump from the ‘X’ to the top of the circle, then back to the ‘X’, then to the right side, then back to the ‘X’ and so on.
